🎭 100 years of the St. Margarethen Passion Play - Anniversary 2026
In 2026, the Passion Play will celebrate its 100th anniversary in the impressive St. Margarethen quarry. Margarethen will celebrate its 100th anniversary - a special anniversary at one of the most spectacular venues in Europe.
For this festive year, the biblical story of the life, suffering and resurrection of Jesus Christ will be retold - with a new text, new music and new artistic direction. The play "Mirjam - Love is Strong as Death", written by director Pastor Dr. Richard Geier, focuses on a female perspective for the first time: Maria Magdalena looks back on Jesus' work 20 years after the events of Bethany and Jerusalem. In touching dialogues with characters from the Gospel of John, she processes memories, doubts and hope.
Embedded in the imposing natural backdrop of the quarry, the result is a moving overall experience of drama, music and atmosphere - powerful, emotional and contemporary.
