Marvel at animals from all over the world at Hellbrunn

With around 1,500 animals of 150 species, the former "Hellbrunn Zoo" offers an exciting experience. From the dwarf mouse to the white rhinoceros, creatures of all sizes are represented - and from different continents. A special centerpiece of the zoo is the African section with its spacious savannah enclosure and lion house. Eurasia attracts visitors with the Red Panda, Alpine ibexes and brown bears. From America you can see sloths and a lowland tapir. Australia is represented by parma kangaroos, for example.

The unique zoo landscape in Hellbrunn

The 14-hectare site offers space for spacious outdoor facilities. Salzburg Zoo is committed to keeping the animals in enclosures that are as close to nature as possible. The characteristics of the specific habitats are combined with the special landscape features of Hellbrunn: from the imposing rock faces to the hilly meadow landscape.

The petting zoo

Over 300,000 visitors a year can always look forward to special program highlights. In addition to the native and exotic wild animals, there are always baby animals to see. The pets in the Arche petting zoo are always happy for a cuddle.

A zoo with a history

The area of today's zoo in the south of the city of Salzburg has been an archiepiscopal game park since the 15th century. The Hellbrunn complex with its palace, trick fountains and zoo was planned by Archbishop Markus Sittikus from 1612 and completed in 1619. Today, Salzburg Zoo is a modern nature and species conservation center - and a highlight for children!
