Certified Eco Resort - Austrian Ecolabel & EU-Eco Label

The certification of the Hotel Rehbach with the Austrian Ecolabel and the EU Ecolabel was an extensive and labor-intensive undertaking. The catalog of criteria comprised 76 pages, which have been carefully worked through since January 2021. This resulted in over 500 pages of documentation, which served as the basis for the audit at the end of May.

The requirements for these certifications cover numerous areas, including:

Energy efficiency: Use of energy-efficient heating, hot water and air conditioning devices as well as lighting.

Water management: Installation of water-saving taps and toilets, promotion of the reuse of towels and bed linen.

Waste management: Reduction of waste, avoidance of disposable products, effective waste separation and recycling.

General management: Implementation of an environmental management system, staff training, information for guests and regular monitoring of consumption.

These criteria are divided into mandatory and optional, with the mandatory ones having to be met and the optional ones recognizing additional environmental performance.

The entire certification process took around six months to a year. The costs amounted to a one-off fee of between 500 and 1,500 euros and annual license fees of 500 euros. Both certifications are valid for four years, after which recertification is required. This took place in summer 2025 and was successfully completed.

Through the successful implementation of these measures, Hotel Rehbach was not only able to reduce its ecological footprint, but also sustainably increase the quality and well-being of its guests.
