Description
The Bernisches Historisches Museum is one of the most important historical museums in Switzerland. Its collection is a cultural repository for the history of Bern and the world. Since the museum was founded in 1889, its collection of history, archaeology, ethnography and numismatics has grown to half a million objects. These include outstanding objects of international importance. The museum maintains, expands and researches this cultural heritage for the benefit of future generations.
The changing exhibitions, guided tours, hands-on activities and events offer exciting entertainment, sensory experiences and a critical examination of our cultural heritage. The existing exhibitions show the highlights of the collection and convey formative eras and important events in the history of the city and canton of Bern. Current social issues find their way into the museum in participatory formats. The integrated "Einstein Museum" places the life and work of the physicist in the context of world history. This includes the famous theory of relativity, which he developed during his time in Bern.
