How to get there: First to Hippach and further via the toll Zillertaler Höhenstraße (8 euros) to the Jausenstation Melchboden at about 2000 meters above sea level - the highest point of the Höhenstraße and starting point of our circular hike. The parking lot is not subject to charges. Support the Melchboden tenant by enjoying a coffee!

STOP! First enjoy views of the Zillertal Alps!

Off to the Arbiskopf (2133 m) and further to the Rauhenkopf (2268 m). The path to the Rastkogelhütte leads along in a beautiful terrain in easy ups and downs. What you would never expect: Again and again do on the way to the Rastkogelhütte beautiful flat areas that invite you to rest. Once you reach the Mitterwandskopf, you can already see the summit cross of the Kreuzjoch (2336 m). Now it is not far and you have arrived!

Return: First on the forest road out of the valley, but then a trail branches off to the left in the direction of Melchboden (signpost). Very leisurely uphill - don't worry, you don't gain many meters in altitude - through a beautiful landscape with many Swiss stone pines.

PS: By the way, you can also reach the hut by bike via a forest road (mountain bike route 430), you can even continue to the Sidanjoch. The obvious access road to the Rastkogel hut is located a few hairpin bends after the tollbooth and before the Melchboden snack station.
