
Description
The Abbey Library of St. Gall with its famous baroque hall is one of the oldest libraries in the world. It possesses one of the most important collections of manuscripts in Europe, especially for the period of the Carolingians and Ottonians from the 8th to the 11th century. The collection is presented to visitors in temporary exhibitions. The library is the heart of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Abbey District of St. Gall.
St. Gallen can be easily reached from Heiden by post bus in about 45 minutes through the beautiful hilly landscape.
