Helpful facts

In the Allgäu, the knowledge acquired over many centuries of treating nature with care is passed down from generation to generation. This is how the cultural landscape is maintained and preserved in alpine farming. On the one hand, this is done through targeted grazing with young cattle and cows, which graze the large alpine pastures and thus ensure that these areas do not become overgrown. This is the only way that the colorful alpine flowers can grow again every year and the great diversity of species can develop. On the other hand, the alpine farmers themselves also ensure this by looking after the cattle and consciously caring for nature by hand, e.g. by regulating the tree cover.

This management in and with nature has also been transferred to the valley. The local farmers have jointly joined the "Hindelang eco-model" whose criteria ensure that people, animals and nature live together in harmony and ensure that the landscape is preserved.
