Salzburg is the fourth largest city in Austria and the capital of the province of Salzburg. Salzburg's old town has internationally renowned baroque architecture and one of the best-preserved city centers north of the Alps. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
Known as the birthplace of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, for its attractive location and picturesque Alpine backdrop, Salzburg is also home to three universities and thus a large number of students.
In the mid-20th century, the city was the setting for parts of the musical and film "The Sound of Music”.
