The Rienz Gorge near Natz is an impressive natural wonder with steep rock faces, interspersed with trees and shrubs, and the rushing waters of the River Rienz. This gorge, which is around two hundred meters deep, was formed during the last ice age around 15,000 years ago, when mighty glacial rivers shaped the valley. From Natz-Schabs, you can cross the gorge over two bridges: the Rienzbrücke bridge in Natz and the Rundlbrücke bridge in Schabs. The Rundlbrücke bridge in particular offers a fascinating view of the disused Rundl power station dating back to 1903. The castle-like architecture of the power station bears witness to the importance attributed to the new energy source at the beginning of the 20th century. Even though the power plant itself cannot be visited, the Rienzschlucht gorge invites you to take a spectacular exploration tour through a natural river landscape.
