CIN: IT021074B4FBNX49IW
The Seefeld Lakes above Meransen are among the most beautiful destinations in the Gitschberg-Jochtal area. Depending on the level of physical fitness and the desired experience, several routes are available, from leisurely to challenging. The starting point can be either Mountain Lodge Margit (with a short ascent) or the Altfasstal parking lot (1,606 m).
1) Classic route through the Altfasstal valley (family-friendly to the lodges)
From the Altfasstal parking lot, a wide and almost flat forest path leads past Kneipp stations, alpine meadows, and the Großbergbach stream to the end of the valley. The trail is family-friendly and stroller-friendly all the way to the mountain huts.
Parking lot → Großberghütte: about 45-60 min.
Großberghütte → Pranter-Stadlhütte / Wieserhütte: about 45-60 min.
At the end of the valley, the Pranter-Stadlhütte (with a large playground) and the Wieserhütte invite you to stop for a bite to eat. 2
This trail is perfect for those looking for an easy hike.
2) From the end of the valley onward to the Großer Seefeldsee (for mountain hikers)
From the huts begins an alpine trail, no longer suitable for strollers.
Refuges → Großer Seefeldsee: about 1.25-1.75 hours (depending on fitness level)
Total time from the parking lot: about 5-6 hours round trip.
The trail is steeper, but breathtakingly beautiful, especially when the alpine roses are in bloom. Snowfields are possible until early summer.
3) Challenging alternative: via Moserhütte & Kleiner Gitsch to Seefeld Lakes
An impressive, mountainous alternative leads to the Moserhütte and Kleiner Gitsch (2,262 m) - with magnificent views of the Dolomites, the Sarntal Alps and the Altafossa Valley.
Parking Altfasstal → Moserhütte (1,936 m): approx. 1:00-1:10 hours
Moserhütte → Kleiner Gitsch: approx. 1 hour
From the summit, the trail leads northward over the Ochsenboden in the direction of the Weißalm (2177 m) and continues via trails 12A/12B in the direction from which the crossing to the Seefeldsee area is reached. 5
This variant is challenging, requires sure-footedness and is suitable only for experienced mountain hikers.
