Alternative route nature discovery trail

Description

The "Zans" nature discovery trail is located at the head of the Villnöß valley. This is the first nature discovery trail in the country that is wheelchair accessible and aims to bring walkers and hikers closer to the unique natural and cultural landscape of the Puez-Odle Nature Park.

Rural cultural landscape, intact forests and flowering alpine meadows at the foot of the imposing Geisler peaks accompany the visitors on three kilometres. A total of 17 stations, some of which are equipped with Braille, provide information about the origins and natural history features of this area.

From the parking lot in Zans, the trail leads across the Piuswiese meadow to a game preserve, past the lime kiln, the "Kelderer Wiese" hut and the forester's lodge, and finally ends back at the Zans parking lot. The gradient is a maximum of eight percent, several resting places invite you to linger. The names of the stations give an idea of what there is to discover: "Mountains to touch", "Concert hall nature" are just two examples. In addition, there is information about animals and plants, but also about how man has contributed to the development of the landscape in the valley head of Villnöß.

The wooden sculptures installed at some of the stations were made in the sheltered workshop "The Cherry Tree" in Bolzano. The St. Raphael Centre for the Blind in Bolzano has taken care of the translation of the texts into Braille.
