Büsum is now the third largest tourist resort on the Schleswig-Holstein North Sea coast and was once a fishing village.

Today, Büsum offers seaside recreation for families, nature lovers and sports enthusiasts. There is an extensive green beach with many beach chairs on the North Sea dyke and the Watt'n Island, which is located in front of the dyke in the family lagoon. The heart of Büsum is the historic museum harbor with various harbor basins. In addition to the excursion boats, Büsum harbor is home to the largest fleet of shrimp boats on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein. The shopping street and the "Meerzeit" water park also attract many visitors.
