Culture in the middle of the city

The Pongau Cathedral is the landmark of the small town of St. Johann in Salzburg and can be visited free of charge at any time. Right next door is one of the oldest buildings in the district capital, St. Anne's Chapel.

The famous Pongau Cathedral is a two-towered parish church with Gothic wood carvings. It was first mentioned in documents in 924. After the market fire of 1855, the church was rebuilt from the ground up (1855-1861). The neo-Gothic altars house many late Gothic figures.

The mighty location above the Salzach Valley and the majestic interior make the building one of the major works of ecclesiastical architecture. Located between Wagrainer Straße and the parish church, St. Anna's Chapel is the last remnant of the former Gothic church ensemble to survive the devastating fire of 1855. Built in 1301, it was completely renovated on the outside and in the lower church between 1995 and 2000. Today, St. Anna's Chapel is the place of worship for the Protestant community of St. Johann. Exhibitions are regularly held in the lower church.

Access to the buildings is free!
