Guided hike from the Zillertal Alps Nature Park
On the traces of the mining history of the Tux Valley
Before the first tourists discovered the Tuxertal, 1,700 m was home to the highest mining and smelting operation in Europe. Until its closure in 1976, the mining of magnesite meant daily bread for up to 400 workers. A separate plant settlement with elementary school, canteen, department store, cinema and ski lift made the life of the workers' families a little sweeter. We will hike to the Barbara Chapel with its fresco by the Tyrolean painter Max Weiler and learn a lot about the history of this formative company on the way to the former factory grounds. We will hear first-hand about the circumstances under which the rock was extracted from the mountain into the valley at that time. An interesting panoramic hike with fantastic views of the Tux and Zillertal Alps!
