Hike: the way of the Ox

On the trail of the Casies valley Alpine oxen!

For more than 200 years, tales have been told about the fine tender meat of the Gsieser ox. Over the past 25 years this old tradition of the Gsieser ox has been revived once again. It takes at least 2 summers on the Alpine pastures for the young cattle to grow and flourish before becoming mighty oxen, weighing more than 700 kg.

Traditionally at Easter, the Gsieser oxen are auctioned at the cattle market in St. Lorenzen.

To understand this tradition better, today we will hike the themed trail: the Gsieser Ochsensteig!
