Taking responsibility!

Since the mid-1980s, we have been dealing with the topic of "grow or give way" and the circular idea of agriculture. At the beginning of the 1990s, we started producing our own electricity and since the turn of the millennium we have been involved in ecological construction.

Today we talk about "sustainability"!

We want to become even better and are always happy to receive suggestions.

What we do for you:

Certified natural cosmetics & cleaning products

We provide you with high-quality shampoo, shower gel and body lotion in the accommodation units. The natural cosmetics i+m comes from Berlin and is fair - organic - vegan. The exquisite and pure natural cosmetics contain no silicones, kerosenes, parabens, phthalates, microplastic beads but only natural, cold-pressed oils and plant-based active ingredients.

The soap, dishwashing liquid and dishwasher tabs are of course also certified organic products.

The "social toilet paper" from Goldeimer is made from 100% recycled paper, as are the baking paper and kitchen and handkerchiefs provided.

We use ecological cleaning agents to clean the apartments and rooms.

We wash our towels with certified organic detergent.

Organic drinks service

We have stocked our small farm shop with selected soft drinks, beers and wines, naturally in organic quality. The regional beer Fastmoker Wildwuchs is particularly special!

It is refreshingly unconventional in all its original variety of flavors - and the only brewery in Hamburg that is completely organic!

Little things

Sometimes it's the little things that help us to be more conscious. Of course, we provide cloth shopping bags for shopping and bottles to fill and take away in the accommodation. And our Betthüpferl is the finest organic chocolate.

Energy-efficient agriculture

Organic farming is characterized by more efficient energy use than conventional agriculture. The energy-intensive synthetic chemical fertilizers used in production are replaced by clover grass, which binds nitrogen on its own. The clover grass meadows and flower meadows as insect paradises also contribute to the diversity of our cultural landscape. Our family and walkers enjoy the sea of flowers again and again. The deliberate avoidance of synthetic sprays saves even more energy, as their production is extremely energy-intensive. The consequences associated with the use of sprays and synthetic fertilizers for the animal and plant world, as well as for ground and surface water, should not be neglected. We also carry out various measures on the farm that go beyond the organic standard in order to preserve and promote the diversity of the local flora and fauna:

- Creation of orchards

- Set-aside of partial areas

- Careful treatment of ditch edges and retreat areas

- Sowing of flower meadows

- Creation of biotopes

- Biodiversity and society

We want to do more than the standard. Organic farming alone is not enough for us. Everything is connected to everything else. That's why York actively creates ponds around the farm; the waterholes in our marshes are a habitat for diverse biotopes. We enjoy the fruits of our labor every summer! Swallows, barn owls, dragonflies and frog concerts can be heard everywhere. We farmers get so much money from the state, but unfortunately not for the really important tasks of our time: preserving creation while at the same time producing safe food. York wants to give something back to society for the money he receives, so he is happy when people in the area pick flowers from his flowering meadows, when we have lots of animals and plants growing here, making the region more sustainable and biologically diverse!

Bees and beauty

We keep a bee colony and our guests get to enjoy our fresh honey every year. For the first early insects, we plant early flowering bulbous plants such as crocuses, snowdrops and daffodils every year. If you can help nature with beauty, everyone is helped!

Cutting instead of chopping!

Our ditches are rarely mowed and if possible, they are not mulched, but cut! Mulching often kills over 80% of all insects and amphibians, while the blade mower only kills a fraction of them!

Sustainable design houses

Since Easter 2025, we have been renting out four newly built design houses, for which we have placed great emphasis on sustainable construction in order to give the vacation farm an even stronger sustainability profile.

We have fitted the wooden houses with grass roofs, straw is used as insulation and we use rainwater to flush the toilets. The timeless Danish design kitchens we have chosen combine functionality with a high proportion of high-quality recycled materials.

What are we doing for our future:

CO2 and hotspots

We actively plant fruit trees and create entire orchards. We live in the least wooded district in Germany, which also has its charm because you can feel the vastness here. Nevertheless, we are working on planting more trees to store CO2. Every year, we plant new trees in our surroundings, creating not only our own climate forest, but also species-rich avenues and niches. We want to create many ecological hotspots in and around our business and radiate them into the region.

Photovoltaics

We are one of the sunniest regions due to our proximity to the North Sea. This not only benefits our guests, since 2005 we have installed over 1200 square meters of photovoltaics on the roofs of our farm buildings. This allows us to generate up to 120kwp of electricity, which we also use for our own consumption.

We have installed our own electricity storage system since 2025 in order to be able to better use our electricity from our entire photovoltaic areas ourselves, with the aim of significantly increasing our independence from the electricity grid once again.

Wind power

The Dithmarsch North Sea coast is one of the windiest locations in Germany. With the energy transition, our region is not only defined by its vastness, windmills have increasingly become part of the landscape. Since 1992, Hof Wollatz has owned two wind turbines, which we renewed in 2014. Together with our neighbor, we now operate three Enercon E82 turbines, which generate enough electricity for over 6,000 single-family homes.

E-charging station

If you arrive by electric car, there is an e-charging station on the farm.

You can also charge the e-bikes you bring with you in our bicycle storage room.

Heating and cooling technology

We cover our hot water requirements and part of our heating needs with our 20 m² solar panel area on the farmhouse roof. In order to further reduce the energy requirements in the house, we opted for wall-mounted radiant heating with clay construction technology as part of the conversion. This enables us to work with low flow temperatures. We have renovated our vegetable cooling system for over 400 tons of vegetables to make it more energy-efficient and now operate it with much more compatible refrigerants and more efficient motors. We also monitor the cooling and compression rooms to ensure that no refrigerant can escape unhindered.

We wanted to move away from oil and have already equipped two of our houses with a geothermal heat pump. Since autumn 2023, a biomass wood chip heating system and a small wind turbine have been in operation, which supply the entire farmhouse, the new design houses and parts of the farm.

We are LANDGREEN

No other form of vacation comes as close to the topic of sustainability as a vacation in the countryside. In the middle of nature. Where overcrowded cities, street noise & Co. have long since been left behind and the essentials take on greater importance. Here, where life doesn't take place in front of the TV, but on the doorstep. Where we are reminded that milk does not come from the fridge, where you can watch muesli ingredients grow and the carrot variety is also selected according to taste.

LANDGRÜN stands for hosts and accommodations throughout Europe that pay special attention to sustainability and have been successfully tested in various criteria in the areas of INFORMING - ARRIVING - LIVING - EATING & DRINKING - EXPERIENCING - DEPARTURE.

Sustainable vacation property certification

With the sustainable vacation property certification, Klimapatenschaft Tourismus GmbH recognizes vacation homes that meet a high standard of sustainability and thus guarantee an environmentally friendly and resource-saving vacation. The inspection and evaluation of the vacation property on the basis of this comprehensive certification is therefore not only ecologically responsible, but above all also economically sensible.

TourCert

The local tourism organization Dithmarschen Tourismus e.V. manages the sustainability process for the Dithmarschen region. Our region has now received the award as a sustainable travel region from TourCert in October 2022. We are part of the partner network as a partner company of the Sustainable Travel Region.

What's next!

CO2 footprint

Of course we ourselves are concerned with what we can do better, but often the innovations also come from outside the company, we are never afraid of criticism and suggestions, they are our drive for development and change, also with regard to our CO2 footprint.
