WINTER MAGIC on the sunny balcony in Prägraten

Every Thursday at noon, a very special winter hike takes place in Prägraten: Together with the national park rangers, you’ll take a leisurely hike along the new Bichl winter trail—right through an impressive cultural landscape on the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park.

Even the start in the small hamlet of Bichl is a highlight: old farmhouses, plenty of sunshine, and views across snow-covered slopes. The trail then continues through quiet larch meadows, where nature unfolds its very own winter magic.

Along the way, the rangers will share fascinating facts about animals and plants in the depths of winter—and at the bird feeding station, they’ll show you just how lively things get there among the titmice, finches, and squirrels.

As Ranger Sophie says: “Winter shows us just how much life there is even in the silence”—and that’s exactly what you’ll feel on this tour. So it’s perfect for anyone who wants to experience East Tyrol’s winter mindfully and at a leisurely pace.

Guided ranger hike, including snowshoes for the tour.

Most lodging providers will lend you a backpack and ski poles for free for the tour.

11:45 a.m. at the Prägraten am Großvenediger Tourism Association—then carpool to the parking lot in Bichl.

+ Sturdy hiking boots with good traction—(NO moon boots)

+ Winter-appropriate clothing, including a hat and gloves
