Description:

On this hike, we head directly from the hotel to the Alpendorf Bergbahnen. The gondola takes us up to the mountain station at approx. 1,600 m, where the actual hike begins. First, the trail climbs moderately up to the Gernkogel. Passing the Geisterberg, the path continues almost flat toward the mountain lake, which takes on a wonderful turquoise color in good weather. The trail then descends gently across blooming alpine meadows and through a small wooded area to the Maurachalm. The alpine hut is known for its house-made schnapps and the always cheerful hosts, who often entertain guests with musical performances.

If you’d like to extend the hike a bit, you can climb to the summit of the Sonntagskogel and then hike via Wagrein along a loop trail back to the Maurachalm. The return route is the same as the outbound route up to the gondola, which we’ll then take back down to Alpendorf.
