🏘️ Here’s what awaits you:
Klausen is one of the most charming little towns in the Eisack Valley and captivates visitors with its medieval old town, narrow alleys, historic townhouses, and small squares. High above the town sits the Säben Monastery, which has been a special place of history, spirituality, and breathtaking views for centuries.
✨ A special highlight:
Klausen has been cherished by artists for many centuries and is still considered a place full of atmosphere and history. At the top of Säbener Berg, you can also enjoy a wonderful view of Klausen, the Eisack Valley, and the surrounding mountains.
🥾 Our tip:
Combine a leisurely stroll through Klausen’s old town with the hike up to Säben Monastery. The monastery is accessible only on foot—either via the Way of the Cross in about 30 minutes or via the Säben Promenade in about 40 minutes.
🚗 Directions & Parking:
From the Mountain Lodge Margit, you can reach Klausen in about 30–35 minutes by car. The Griesbruck area or the Old Town parking lot is a particularly good starting point; from there, you can quickly reach the Old Town and the trail leading up to Säben.
🚌 By public transportation:
Alternatively, the trip is also easily done by public transit: take the bus from Meransen to Mühlbach Bahnhof and continue by train toward Klausen.
ℹ️ Good to know:
Ideal for culture, strolling through town, photography, a short hike, and moments of tranquility. Please note that Säben Monastery is accessible only on foot; the interior is not open to the public, but the church and outdoor areas are accessible. The classic ascent from Klausen is not suitable for strollers due to the steps.
