🏰 Here’s what awaits you:
Rodego Castle is one of the largest and most imposing fortified castles in South Tyrol. Perched high above the Rienz Gorge, the castle captivates visitors with its picturesque setting, fascinating history, and impressive medieval interiors. Particularly famous are the 13th-century Iwein frescoes, considered the oldest secular wall paintings in the German-speaking world. Those who love castles and historic sites will enjoy a particularly memorable excursion here.
📍 How to get there from the Mountain Lodge Margit:
Rodenegg Castle is about a 20- to 25-minute drive away. The castle is therefore an ideal cultural destination for a half-day trip in the immediate vicinity.
💡 Our tip:
Rodenegg Castle is particularly interesting for anyone who loves castles, history, and a medieval atmosphere. During the guided tour, you’ll discover, among other things, the outer courtyard, the chapels, the inner courtyard, the castle’s old kitchen, the armory, the garden, and, of course, the famous Iwein frescoes. This excursion pairs wonderfully with a stroll through Rodeneck or a short stop in the surrounding area.
👨👩👧 Also great for families:
The castle is a wonderful destination for families with older children as well, since the historic rooms, weapons, and stories bring the past to life in a particularly vivid and realistic way.
