Berghotel Rehlegg
The start
This particularly beautiful hike begins, how could it be otherwise, at the Hotel Rehlegg. You walk down into the village and over the bridge and then left, always along the stream to the Wimbachbrücke bridge. At the Wimbach bridge in Berchtesgadener Land, a marked path branches off to the Wimbachklamm gorge. A small gorge, but one that surprises with its beautiful rock formations and waterfalls. Behind the gorge begins the Wimbach Valley, a mighty high valley with magnificent rock formations.
Intermediate stop
The first stop on the hike, the Wimbach Castle, a former hunting lodge of the prince prince-bishops and the Prince Regent of Bavaria, can be reached after a good hour's hike without any major incline. The valley is the sister valley of Lake Königssee in Berchtesgaden. The only difference is that one valley is filled with water, the other with gravel (Griess), which is washed up by the torrents. The Berchtesgaden Hochkalter rises up on the right and the Watzmann west face rises up on the left.
The destination
After another two hours of hiking, you will reach the Wimbachgrieshütte hut. Here you can sit back and reward yourself for your ascent with good Bavarian food and a magnificent view of the Berchtesgadener Land region.
