The gigantic bulwark near Tönning is a popular excursion destination on the way to the Eiderstedt peninsula. The Eidersperrwerk connects the district of Dithmarschen with Eiderstedt in North Friesland. Not only the wonderful view into the distance, but also the snack bar right next to the barrage is very popular - they say they have the best fish sandwiches! Boat trips to the seal banks are offered from the Eidersperrwerk. If you're lucky, you might spot seals in the North Sea or watch one or two fishing boats heading out to sea.
