Discovering the churches of Bormio - Guided tour of the Church of S. Spirito by the "Volunteers for Culture".
Church of S. Spirito
Today deconsecrated, it has recently been purchased and restored by the Municipality of Bormio
It is from the beginning of the 19th century that the structure was abandoned as a place of worship to become first a barn, then a tool shed, a dormitory and finally a private home. The structure deserves to be visited thanks to the beautiful frescoes preserved inside and enhanced thanks to recent restoration work.
As for the origin of the paintings, those on the walls and apse can be dated to the 15th century, while the vault, otherwise unified from a stylistic and thematic point of view, would seem to date back to the first half of the 16th century. Among the most important frescoes worth mentioning are The Coronation of the Virgin (probably the work of Giovannino da Sondalo's workshop) and the scene of the Virgin Ursula with her husband, attributable to Bertolino de Buris.
