Freebühl chapel

Helpful facts

The small chapel in Freienbühl with its prayer meadow is a wonderful place to relax. It is the only chapel where three crossroads end - those of St. Andrä, Afers and the small hamlet of Palmschoß. According to legend, the place used to be called "Hexenbühl", when the farmer's wife Balbina, who had immigrated from the Ladin Val Badia, was blamed for the death of her family from smallpox and thus driven away. Balbina spent the night on the Hexenbühl when Our Lady appeared to her in a dream. Balbina then had a chapel built on the spot - since then the place has been called "Freienbühl". Enjoy the peace and quiet on the small hill high above the valley basin. The Way of the Cross from Palmschoß is quite easy - the very fit take Thomas by the hand, then it goes up the 800 meters of altitude directly from the Summererhof.
