The unique wetland, at an altitude of 1200-1220m, is crossed by numerous drainage ditches. It is characterized by a very idyllic landscape with rare plant and animal species. For example, all three of Austria's native "carnivorous plants" can be found here: sundew, butterwort and water hose.
