Hard facts:
3h50 min walking time in total
11 km for the entire hike
606 vertical meters
max. altitude 1,847 (Sonntagskogel)
Way description:
Starting point is the mountain station of the Alpendorf gondola lift (operating times: June to October). From the mountain station, follow the road via the Buchauhütte to the Gernkogelalm. From here, follow the path to the right around the wooded summit of the Gernkogel. Hike across a wide saddle in the direction of the Sonntagskogel, following a path directly over the ridge to the summit. From the Sonntagskogel you can hike downhill towards Wagrain to the Großunterbergalm. The way back is on the ascent route.
Alternatively: Shortly before the summit of the Sonntagskogel, turn off in the direction of the Maurachalm. The Maurachalm is one of the most rustic mountain pastures in the country. Take the same route back or the circular route around the Grindkogel.
