The Montafon Alpine and Tourism Museum Gaschurn has been housed in a historic Montafon house since 1992. Based on the impressive simplicity and beauty of the architecture of the old wooden house from the early 19th century and its former resident, the priest, alpine pioneer and church musician Franz Josef Battlogg (1836-1900), the museum focuses on the alpine and tourism history of the Montafon in permanent and temporary exhibitions amidst the impressive mountain scenery of the Silvretta and Verwall. Battlogg, the former Gaschurn early knife, once lived here and gained an international reputation as an alpine pioneer and exceptional choirmaster in the late 1860s and 1870s. He described Gaschurn as the "vestibule to the great mountain world" and published numerous reports on his mountain tours. This made him a pioneer of alpine tourism in the region.
